Understand how genetics research impacts human medicine.
Today, the practice of medicine is largely reactive and based on broad statistical averages. A treatment that works for some people is applied to everyone, with mixed results. This traditional practice doesn’t consider that each individual patient is genetically unique and may therefore have different disease profiles or drug responses.
The Jackson Laboratory is determined to change this. With ever-increasing precision, we identify the genetic and molecular bases of disease and marshal our strengths in genomics and disease modeling to discover individualized treatments and cures so that medicine is more precise, predictable and personal.
Our work, and the work of our scientific collaborators, will transform medicine by improving care, lowering costs, and increasing lifespan and healthspan.
We have eight decades of experience in genetics and genomics, and our growing understanding of human disease has contributed to better treatments for cancer, neurodegenerative and immune disorders, heart disease, diabetes and other afflictions.
We are dedicated to discovering precise genomic solutions for disease.
