Markus focuses on alternating hemiplegia of childhood, KIF1A-associated disorders, spinal muscular atrophy, and ALS. With more than a decade of neuroscience and biomedical science research spanning the U.S. and Germany, he leads programs from novel model development and characterization through IND-enabling therapeutic studies. Markus is committed to uncovering molecular mechanisms and developing therapies that improve the lives of patients with rare neurological disorders.
Markus received his B.S. in molecular biology from the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Germany followed by an M.S. in medical biology from the University of Duisburg-Essen. Markus pursued his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences at the University of Maine prior to joining JAX where he now works as a Study Director in the Rare Disease Translational Center.
